About the Author
Dr. Mike Goldsmith studied the philosophy of time and space at Keele University in the UK, where he also obtained his PhD in astrophysics. I'm a homeschool mom of 4. I'm really excited about this book. We were borrowing the previous version from the library until this one came to our doorstep. The images are so much more vivid and beautiful. It's quite an improvement. My son enjoys flipping through the pages and reading the information. This book is VERY well put together in classic Kingfisher style.
My children have loved this addition to our homeschool library. It has been a life saver for my two boys doing Classical Conversations Challenge A & B. They use it weekly for their research topics. Science is my least favorite topic and thus I felt we needed an encylcopedia to give us a science resource we needed at our fingertips.
This is our science centerpiece book for our homeschooled grammar stage kids. The plan is: we read a couple of pages appropriate to grade level (first is biol; second is earth sci/planetary sci; third is chemistry; fourth is physical science/computer science). The kids make a timeline of major events in science history (invention of microscope; "discovery" of gravity, etc.). We then head to the library for more books on the subject (ooh, dinosaur books...). Later, it's reports or dictation (again, based on grade level) and, after a couple of weeks, on to the next topic.This is a great science book to use as the basis of your curriculum because it's all there in one book. Rather than purchasing a different curriculum (with worksheets, etc.) for each grade, this book is used for all four years. Greatly reduces your costs!Good book, well put-together. See Well Trained Mind for more info on homeschooling your kid.If you're not homeschooling, this book is a great way to cement the cracks in the education your kids may be receiving. Quite frankly, it's a great way to learn stuff YOU might have missed.
A must have for your library. This is a wonderful tool for homeschool families. But for any family for that matter with children who need to do reports or dig in for a certain topic.
This is exactly what I was looking for to compliment our Homeschool library for Science! My daughter is in 3rd grade, so we should be able to plenty of use from this book.
This is a very thorough book and includes many pages of interesting information. I just wish I could keep it, but I am giving it as a Christmas gift to my nieces. They are 10 and 7 and love everything about science, chemistry, how things work, etc. Should keep them busy for hours. And will be a great reference tool as they get older.
So glad I purchased this for our home reference library. Love the way it's laid out and all the information. Saves us trips to the library and gives my child another bibliography reference for her science papers.
My son LOVES to pick up this or it partner history boom and just read them! Amazing homeschooling book
