One of my best go-to cookbooks. Have authors 2 previous similar publications, which are my most used cookbooks. Bought their first book after reading a recipe published in the LA Times almost 30 yrs ago, then went out and bought the book. Love reading about the Inns around the country from which the recipes come. Frequently will give one of their books as a bridal shower gift. Definitely a dog-eared keeper.

I've already marked a lot of recipes I'd like to try. There seems to be something for everyone in here.

This is one of my favorite cookbooks in the world. There are 3 in the series and I own all 3! Great recipes - great results!!

This book was given to me several years ago as a gift, but it got lost in our move. I ordered this one to replace it. This book is full of great hostess recipes. It's a great reference if you do much entertaining!

I had purchased a book of the same title printed years earlier, with which our family was most pleased. However, my sister purchased the newer edition, which contained all of the recipes in the earlier printing....and MANY, MANY more!! The later edition is hard covered, only cost me $11.50 and is like new. The recipes contained therein are wonderful, easy to make, do not contain dozens of spices that are not found in existing spice racks or other exotic ingredients. This is the BEST cookbook we've ever had....and the vendor's description of the book was exactly as described...LIKE NEW!! Purchased at Amazon.GREAT PURCHASE ALL AROUND. THANKS!

The artwork, the designs, are definitely deserving of five stars. I have only found two artists whose mandalas I love and one of them is Jade Summer. The result of using gel pens is stunning. The back of each sheet is black which prevents them from bleeding through, a definite plus. I give the book five stars because of the beauty of the designs . However, the paper chosen could have been thicker. I also wish the pages were perforated for easy removal. I would have gladly paid more, even if it were just the first fifty pages I am amazed at the number of designs. I doubt if I will complete the last half of the book. I definitely place quality above quantity. I hope future editions will just use the complete designs and incorporate a higher grade of paper and perhaps perforations or even a spiral binding. Summer's designs would be worth the additional cost.

The designs are a nice mix of complex and simple mandalas, a little variety. And of course there are 100 different mandalas so this book will keep me entertained for such a long time.Each mandalas has its own sheet, and the backsides of the sheets are black so there is no bleed through that I’ve noticed.Some of the mandalas are cut off on the edges because they surpass the edge of the sheet. As if the mandala wasn’t sized to this smaller paper properly. The outlines of the mandalas were not a true black either. They look more like a gray color, it’s as if the ink faded or was running out on the printer when this book was printed out.

Just received today. Not exactly what I was hoping for. I was really excited about it and when it came it was flimsy and a lot less sturdy then I was expecting. It seems like someone just printed it with copy paper and put it in the mail. The backside of each page is black but paper is not thick as in other books I have purchased (ex: Johanna Basford, Millie Marotta, Color-it). Will keep as I have a soft spot for Mandalas but was definitely expecting more from a Bestseller

I was very disappointed in this book and can't fathom why it's been rated so high by others. There is so much black ink in each mandala, you have to use bright colors to offset it, or it looks horrid. Also, the back of each page is black. Why?! It's very unsightly. I can't understand the high price for this one.

Recently just started this whole adult coloring thing and have come to love coloring mandalas! What I love about this book is that the pages are one-sided, with a total blacked out back page. The only thing is I wish that the pages were perforated. Since I color with markers, I've just been cutting them out with an exacto knife. But I love the range of designs in the book! For the holidays, all the family members that came and visited ended up coloring a page out of it!

Sadly they really missed the mark with this book. I was VERY disappointed with it. I thought for the price it would have been a really nice book however once I got it, I was so let down. The images are printed on thin dull colored paper like that of cheap children's coloring books. The pages have the image on one side and are printed solid black on the back. There's a lot of black incorporated into many of the images and that would be okay if the ink didn't bleed into what you are coloring with plus the black ink on the back of the page transfers to the page below it if you don't use a blotter. I use a piece of thin cardboard like the side of a cereal box cut to be the same size as each book as a blotter, so this didn't bother me but he forewarned! I only give this two stars because the first half of the images are pretty nice (if you don't mind so much black on some of them) but the second half of the book is just enlarged versions of many of the first half. On many of the images, they run off the page and doesn't make the image have the proper edges that Mandalas have. (See my attached photo for an example) Don't spend your money on this book when there's so many better one's out there.

This is such a great coloring book!! I definitely urge you to buy this if you really love mandala's. Not only are there 100, but there is a very large variety from simple to advanced. I honestly can't wait to start coloring in this one. There are a lot that will take a few days to even finish, maybe longer depending on how much sit down time I get. I'm truly excited about this one. It's just too pretty. The paper is medium weigh but place a few sheets of notebook paper under the page you color to prevent bleed through or indention's from colored pencils. I keep thinking about this book and what colors I want to use. I have a LOT of books and this one keeps popping out in my mind today. I received this at a discount for an honest and unbiased review. Per usual though, my reviews are very honest. I rely heavily on reviews, so I know a lot of you gals (and guys) do too. I always want to do right by my fellow colorists'. I always hope to point you in the right direction. This book will last forever. Happy Coloring!!! (Non perforated pages)

I gave this coloring book four starts because the pages are not perforated and cannot be easily removed from the book. I like to work on my designs on a clipboard and usually remove them from the book. Otherwise, the mandalas are great!

This a really nice adult coloring book. When I first received it I thought I wouldn't like it because of all the heavy black lines. But I found that the black makes the colors pop and more vibrant. The black is an important part of the pictures. The pages are single sided and are completely black on the backside of the page. My only negative is that the pages are not thick enough and get folded easily.

Bukowski is one of my all-time favorites. I read the Chinaski stories in chronological order, which is (I think) more rewarding than reading them in the order in which they were actually written. Factotum is the second in the series, and probably one of the weaker ones. That's just a testament to how great the others are, because this book is still fantastic. Factotum tends to get overlooked in the saga because it doesn't necessarily advance Chinaski's story very much, but it is still a great read packed with outlandish moments. If you're going to read Ham on Rye, Post Office, Women, etc. don't overlook Factotum. It's an interesting, if not altogether necessary, addition to the story.

Extolled author Charles Bukowski wrote 'Factotum' in 1975, but with all the references to World War II in it, the tale seems to be about an earlier time, just after the war (though this is more my opinion than fact).Henry "Hank" Chinaski is an alcoholic. One step above skid row (and at times even closer than that) Hank's main concern in life is maintaining a job long enough to feed his addiction. However, because of his addiction and his impulsive tendencies, Hank is never able to keep employment for any length of time. Bukowski takes us with thought and feeling through Hank's life, wandering from job to job and woman to woman. New Orleans, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Miami; wherever he goes, his addiction never allows any type of fresh start. He walks off one job clearly stating he needed a drink, highlighting his careless outlook about employment in general.'Factotum' takes us step by step through a portion of Hank's life, most of it looking for work, and portraying his dysfunction at work and tapping into his inner reflections about the job and how much he can put up with before folding and getting that next drink. Life slips by Hank as he contemplates his situations. His is an hour-by-hour existence, without much thought to either past or future. His closest female companion of the line-up he wades through with offhand affection is Jan, a woman with a hot temper and a lusty personality. But Hank eventually loses everything he touches, and accepts it with an unrealistic serenity not usually found in human nature. This isn't to say that Hank isn't at times violent, but his attitude about it lacks any firm conviction of it.Bukowski has written a intensely emotional novel in a quietly reflective tone. His prose is almost poetry. Who else could capture the reader so powerfully over the subject of a born loser and a personality normally avoided? The book grabbed me from the beginning and kept me reading until I was finished. They made a movie of the book in 2005, called 'Factotum' after the book, that was very good. The movie reconstructs the order of Hank's life events, and updates the time from '75 to a more modern era.Some interesting quotes from the book are "Slow-paced, low-life urbanity and alcoholism" from the back flap, and "When you drank the world was still out there, but for the moment it didn't have you by the throat" from the content. I loved this excerpt from page 188; "I bought an eight year old automobile and stayed on the job until December. Then came the Christmas party. That was December 24th. There were to be drinks, food, music, and dancing. I didn't like parties. I didn't know how to dance and people frightened me, especially people at parties. They attempted to be sexy and gay and witty and although they hoped they were good at it, they weren't. They were bad at it. Their trying so hard only made it worse."I highly recommend both book and movie. Enjoy!

Bukowski. You either can go there or you can't. It is by no means "high-brow" but it is not unlike the down-and-out former industrial cities dotting the East Coast rivers - they seem dirty, unsafe, scary and then you turn a corner and see beauty you never imagined there. Somehow, that path gives greater impact to those beautiful moments. I love his unflinching embrace of his own flaws and the moments we would all run from where he finds solace and moments of peace. Great stuff.

This is the second book in the story of Henry Chinaski's life. This one is short and, at times, a bit scattered, but like the others, it is always interesting and well-written. The language and situations are crude, but that is what Bukowski is all about and why I like to read his works.

Don't expect any timeless wisdom in this one, yet you might be surprised about what you do find.Main character Chianski is a young rebel and introvert(perhaps early 20's) as the story begins. We follow him through a journey in which he remains on the same destructive path time and time again. He doesn't give a damn about anyone, including himself. Only a searching reader could assert that he offers much if any introspection on his path through minimum wage, alcoholic, urban America.We must then try to see what we can gain from his tale. Chianski is deeply bitten by the bug of nihilism and thus only aspires to be a sometimes clever man in a world of American misfits. Tale after tale brings us no new insight nor growth that we might expect of a reasonable man. Chianski will, however, give us some worthy perspectives to chew on as an anti-authority detached observer of systems. Ultimately, the tone is powerful and distinct, giving us a strong modern novel that will leave it's own mark.

This is another great by Bukowski. A tough book to find a copy of I guess, at least when I was trying to find one. Anyway, like most of Bukowski's books I finished it in a day no problem. A lot of what's in this book is what that movie "Barfly" is about... he wrote the screenplay for that movie and wrote about all the movie stuff in his novel "Hollywood"... and this book Factotum is a lot of what is the actual storyline in the film.

Thoroughly enjoyed Factotum. Great munchies for the Bukowski addict. Focuses on the multitude of throw away jobs Bukowski stumbled through.

About the Author

Lothar Helm studied physics at the University of Karlsruhe and got his diploma in 1977 in physical chemistry and electrochemistry. In 1980 he obtained his Ph.D. and joined the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Lausanne as post-doc. In 1999 he was appointed Privat Docent at the Faculty of Science of the University of Lausanne. Since 2006 he is titular professor and director of the NMR service of the Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering. André E. Merbach, studied at the University of Lausanne and in 1964 was awarded a PhD. He then spent a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory at UC Berkeley. In 1965 he returned to the Institute of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry at Lausanne and created a research and teaching program in coordination chemistry. In 1973, the Swiss Chemical Society awarded him the Werner Prize and Medal for his research and he was nominated Professor of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry. éva T?th of the Centre de Biophysique Moleculaire, CNRS, Orleans, France, received her Ph.D. in 1994 at the University of Debrecen, Germany and then from 1995-2000 carried out post-doctoral research at the University of Lausanne with Professor Merbach. From 2001-2005 she was based at the EPFL before taking up the position of Director of Research at the CBM in Orleans. She has over 80 journal papers, 4 book chapters as well as acting as co-editor for the 1st edition of this book which was published in 2001.

This book is beautifully written and illustrated. It's bound to be a resource for me and my grandchildren when we go outside to explore. Both adults and children love the sights, word sounds and action and information. There is plenty of learning and fun for the youngest naturalist as well as for the older brothers and sisters.I love that there is a teaching resource website listed for teachers. I'm going to give one to my grandchildren's kindergarten and 1st grade teachers.

This is a magical. eye-opening book. The text leads us through the seasons of life in the forest pools which dot our woodlands and which give birth and sustenance to creatures large and small. The illustrations, beyond being lovely, provide a window on the sentient nature of the life around us. My favorite page is the arrival in the pool of a big, hungry bull frog who comes there to lunch upon the pollywogs. Their worried eyes tell a story all their own. As I read the book to one of my granddaughters, I was grateful - for my own understanding and hers - for the scientific information provided along the way. Questions like, "What happens to the wood frogs when winter comes, Grandpa? Do they die?", need quick, reassuring answers. They're right there for you. Marvelous!

Both parents and the child loved the book. An excellent girt!One of the best presents ever, for a child who lives and breathes the woods of N.H. at 3 years!

Well written, engaging book about vernal pools in the northeast US. Sidebars give more detail for additional study. The pool narrates a year in its life, and it is poetic too. Used this with my elementary science classes.

Brilliant topic to address with children and a validation to their natural tendencies to discover what is there in their world and to imagine what the eye can't see.

Charles Stross, born in 1964, is a full-time science fiction writer and resident of Edinburgh, Scotland. Well, it's a Laundry File novel, so it gets 3 stars to start with; unfortunately, it stops here, because it is the least good of this otherwise wonderful series. The author seems determined to present a view of "the old married couple" (they're not that old!) overburdened by their responsibilities to humankind, but does so rather clumsily. Both Bob and Mo sound just exhausted and so does the novel -- it lacks drive, pizzazz, and, especially, a sense of humor, something that's been a great asset of the series so far. The story is well constructed and interesting -- no disappointment here, really, and the inexorable approach to CASE NIGHTMARE continues apace -- but I thought we were going to CASE NIGHTMARE GREEN (or RAINBOW), and this is CASE NIGHTMARE GREY. I get that Bob and Mo are victims of their knowledge and deeds and intolerably burdened by their responsibilities (esp. Mo, as always the more responsible and more forward-looking of the two), but that was true in the previous novels and did not prevent them from carrying on with some verve and panache and to show their love for each other. Now, however, these two need treatment for depression, and, after reading the book, I feel like I could use some anti-depressants too...

I've generally enjoyed The Laundry Files.But not this one. It is mundane to the point of boredom, and I am not sure if it is the plot or the protagonist but something does not work. Probably both, because normally the first-person POV is Bob, and the sly, off kilter humor works as it has a distinctly masculine tone. Here the POV is from his wife but her voice is both breathless in a Mills and Boon heroine way, and yet still very similar to Bob. So Mo did not come across as her own person for me. And then there is the plot, which focuses on martial disharmony for the first section and it's a bit tedious, to be honest. If I want to read about that I'll tuck into my wife's many novels of that theme. What I expect from The Laundry is neuromancer derring-do with a side salad of overwhelming odds, boatloads of "will he or won't he" situations, seasoned with the need to work in the shadows and a "by the skin of his teeth and smarts of his brain" good over evil ending.This kind of has that, but it is slow getting started and never felt cohesive or sophisticated. Which for the price is very disappointing. Stross let me down with this instalment and while paperbacks are way less convenient than Kindle, I think I'll pick up his next novel in the marked down bin because until (if?) the value curve heads north again.

The book is definitely a departure from the previous Laundry Files and not just because of the change of viewpoint. Part of the reason that I like the series is the amount of geek culture that Bob injects from his viewpoint. That type of humor and viewpoint isn't appropriate coming from Mo, so it makes sense, but it's a loss.That being said, it's not a bad story. It's just not as good as, say, the Fuller Memorandum The first few Laundry Files were relatively self contained stories with CASE NIGHTMARE GREEN being part of the backdrop. Now it looks like Stross is going full on in moving the story arc forward. So I suspect that this book is setup for the future, and I suspect I'll probably view it in a better light after those volumes come back.That being said, one book from Mo's viewpoint is enough. Future books need to go back Bob being the narrator. Without him, the series just loses too much of it's appeal.

She'll tell you about each meeting in full detail, including what coordinating outfit she wears to each one, and also, the condition of her hair at all times.More:Other reviewers here have praised Mo's character in this book. Me, well, I think this: In The Atrocity Archives she's a post-doc in an extremely technical and mathematical branch of philosophy and she reads Knuth for fun. In The Jennifer Morgue she undergoes extensive training and becomes a super-competent and very physical field agent. Her job title is "combat epistemologist" which certainly sounds incredibly abstruse and technical and surely requires an IQ at least three standard deviations above average. So in this book, told in her POV, we're in her head hearing her thoughts and we discover ... she's a protagonist in a Lifetime made-for-TV movie. Apparently that violin has already completely sucked away her brains and she is completely unaware of it.

What happened to the Laundry Files? The Annihilation Score is almost completely bureaucratic procedural filler, with the climax and ending stuck on in the last few pages. There was no new weirdness or horror that hadn't already been explored. The setting up of a Superhero cadre could have been interesting territory but they got no chance to shine, or explore the possibilities of what Laundry-style eldritch-horror-powered supers could do... The overarching story isn't a bad frame, but the over-reliance on committee meetings and Mo's nightmares left little room for fun or adventure.

I was rather disappointed by this installment; in particular, I found it rather hard to feel any sympathy whatsoever for the main character. I had expected it to be a breath of fresh air to see things from Dominique's perspective, but Stross' depiction of her seemed to be that of a rather self-absorbed person who, while clearly in a bad situation, still spends as much time worrying about the state of her marriage as one would deciding what to eat for dinner. While I certainly didn't expect Dominique to be a clone of Bob, I did expect that she would have her own endearing traits that complement his charming social ineptitude. Instead, I found myself gradually sympathizing with Bob and rooting for him to rid himself of yet another woman with whom he has a doomed relationship.

I found the Kindle Paperwhite Manual very helpful and I recommend it. Even with the explanantiion I found the Paperwite challenging in several areas.My problem areas are - Specifically, The Cloud and seeing all the books I have available which I have on my 'original' Kindle. I can't seem to see a list longer than what's shown on the Homepage which is about 6 books. I have a lot on my First kindle but I dont have a separate list. So I feel I don't dare get rid of my original kindle.Maybe you can explain it to me.Probably for most people it's easier because they just have the paperwhite.
