The Employee Experience Advantage: How to Win the War for Talent by Giving Employees the Workspaces they Want, the Tools they Need, and a Culture They Can Celebrate (wow, that’s an extremely long title) sounds incredibly daunting, at least that’s what I thought when I began reading this unique book. However, Jacob Morgan has managed to make what would normally be a boring, tiresome research paper into an engaging guidebook about how to help your employees feel like they want to show up to work every day, as opposed to coming to the office out of obligation. Believe it or not, most people aren't happy in their jobs, they say they are, but they have succumbed to the "I'll be happy when…" Cycle. And other words, "I'll be happy when I get that promotion,” or “I'll be happy when I get that corner office.” Jacob Morgan teaches us to be happy in the moment because our human experiences, not The bottom line, really matter. Through fascinating anecdotes, numerous tables, and notes, at the end of each chapter, employers are taught that it's the physical environment, technology and Business culture that are most important. In fact, according to the book, there is a seventeen point scale to ensure a successful company and each point is discussed in great detail. I would recommend this book to anyone who is either a big/small business owner (size doesn’t matter) or anyone interested in business.

When first starting this book, I was not sure that all of the subjects within would apply to me, even though I was highly interested. Was I in for a surprise! Jacob Morgan writes with purpose and intent about “The Employee Experience” that I never realized I was missing. Finishing this piece was not only equivalent to turning on a light bulb, it was more as if I felt I was turning over the key to start a new race car. Every chapter filled me with inspiration and knowledge for what I want in a company and how I would want to help change every other business currently operating.Morgan sets the premise in the first section, explaining that In the past, companies attracted talent by necessity - everyone had to work because everyone needed money to survive. Now, talent is being fought over. In order to do this, organizations have to create places employees WANT to be, instead of places they HAVE to be. In the following sections, he goes on in detail to describe how to shift the work experience to one that increases satisfaction. This way, instead of viewing work as “drudgery” and a purchase of an employee’s time, work itself is transformed into something that a paycheck simply rewards.Something that many of us, employees and executives alike, fail to grasp is the difference between cosmetic changes that occur in employment engagement strategies and deeper, more meaningful and satisfying changes that happen when employee experience is taken into consideration. Even though these two terms have been used synonymously before, Morgan uses clear definitions and an abundance of examples to explain why it is so important to distinguish them. In order to properly explain this, Morgan applies 17 attributes to “the employee experience” through a series of acronyms: COOL (in reference to physical workspace) ACE (in reference to technology) and CELEBRATED (in reference to the cultural environment). Each of the acronyms are thoroughly explained through their own chapters which include tips on how to implement each step as well as examples of companies that both exemplify and underperform in the attribute at hand. At first I was skeptical about the use of acronyms, as it felt like a self-help book that was too good to be true, but I quickly remembered them and was easily able to mentally catalog the vast amount of information in the book by using them.He does not bypass the ever changing world of technology and how this impacts the employee experience. In the final section, and one of my favorite and most surprising chapters I read- while suggesting how to optimize and implement the practices explained throughout previous chapters he leaves no excuses for large corporations to skimp due to data overload. Morgan incorporates the idea of artificial intelligence and how it can help with feedback when dealing with multi-thousand employee companies and feedback from each individual.I appreciate so much about “The Employee Experience Advantage”. The application of relevant, elegant and easy-to-read diagrams and graphs stood out above all. In a data-heavy, concept heavy book such as this, these visual representations helped tremendously. They were well-executed and even in the financial chapter, where any graph could easily get confusing, each image was clearly explained in a manner that someone who has not taken an analytics course can understand. This book is an absolute necessity for any organization seeking to not only to hire more talented people, but also to retain those that they already have. It is not only for the executive- it is for the frontline employee, the human resource staff and everyone in between.

We All Care About the Experience is a book that explores the organizational changes observable in recent history that transformed much of the work force from being motivated by maintaining a well-oil machine to that of one that cares about the employee experience. While the book explores the motivations for the changes, it also explores how the employee experience expectations have evolved to evoke this change from organizations, identifying root causes, and direct colorations in which the pool of employees has demanded a different work environment.I personally work in the technology industry and can point to direct changes in my work environment as a result of the motivations explored within this book. While I love my job, I am part of a generation that wants to find fulfillment every day, and seeing organizations make the change to better provide that to employees is very well defined in this read.Not only does this book open up the processes that motivated the changes but it is inspiring to read as a “worker”. The underlying theme of this book that I think should be moved to the forefront is the power of the employee. The shift in how an organization must view their employees has empowered the workforce to have a more demanding presence within their role of employment. My favorite take away from this book is how employees have demanded a better work experience and have helped motivate organizations enough to see change in the correct direction.This book is a great read if you work in an organization that emphasis culture as a selling point, to better your understanding of their motivations and how you can best influence the culture to ensure you have a better experience at work.

I have been a Christian for 40 years. My end times theology started with the "Late Great Planet Earth". From that book until know I have always been an adherent to the futurist view of Revelation. However over the years I have started to doubt some of the teaching. When nothing happened in 1988 (88 Reasons why Jesus will return in 1988), then subsequent date setting and failures, I began to wonder.Along comes Tyrant by Brian Godawa and my view of the end times is starting to change. Reading any portion of the Bible through the lens of the people at the time is a new concept for me. Books like the "Unseen Realm" Br Dr M Heiser and the Nephilim Chronicles by Brian have opened my eyes to a different world of Biblical understanding, My 20th century filters are being shed and I am beginning to see the Bible through the eyes of the people of the day.Tyrant is an excellent read. Brian interweaves Biblical fact with a fictional narrative that keeps you engaged from beginning to end. What really struck me was the level of decadence of the Roman elite. You do not get that viewpoint from just reading Scripture. Filling out the story with actual historical occurrences and facts made the book come alive. It gave me a new appreciation for what the Christians of the day had to go through to live out their faith. In the back of my mind, I knew it was a tough life, Tyrant brings their lives into vivid detail. Our brothers and sisters suffered greatly for their faith.The other strength of the book is the footnotes. All of Brian's books are heavily footnoted, Tyrant is no exception. As a student of the Word, I appreciate documented sources. It helps me verify for myself the things that are being stated.When I started this book I was a futurist. After reading the book, I sense a turn towards preterism for at least some parts of the book of Revelation. There are two more novels to come. I will withhold final judgement once I have read all three.We should all set aside our pretense and read a book like this with an open mind. Challenges to what we believe are a good thing It is about time that someone took a different view of the end times than the common Protestant view.Congratulations Mr Godawa on a job well done. I anxiously await the next two novels in this series.

In full disclosure, I was asked by Mr. Godawa to be part of a team that was given an advanced copy of the book in order to provide an unbiased review. Further, I did actually pay money for the resultant work, so everything is on the up-and-up here.It is highly likely that this book is one of Mr. Godawa's finest. You can never underestimate the power that a screenwriter can bring to what is otherwise dry, historical accounts and turn the thing into an exceptionally compelling work.However, from the get go, I would actually rate this novel at least a PG-13. Mr. Godawa confronts a number of issues in the book -- most of which are sociologically controversial -- all in an attempt to show us, the reader, that ancient Rome and surrounding areas were dealing with the same types of issues that we deal with today.Don't believe that? It's really interesting -- I'd estimate that a good third of the book is taken up with historical notes that are meticulously tied back to where they're used in each chapter. In other words, as you're reading through the book, at the moment you'd think that Mr. Godawa is making something up, he links to a historical fact.Regarding theology and eschatology, there really is nothing threatening here -- unless you're so tied down to a particular end-times interpretation that you refuse to see any other interpretations. And if that's you, I have more news for you. Any intellectually honest theologian is going to tell you that *all* such futuristic prophecies begin falling apart at some point.Why is this? Think about this: if what is fictionalized in this work -- and the previous Chronicles books -- is based on reality, and the supernatural is arguably more real than the natural, then wouldn't it make sense that if you were given the wisdom and heavenly knowledge to know how precisely how things are going to end, there would also be evil forces who would know the same? Ever think about that?God doesn't work that way. Instead, I've learned to respect that the Lord shows us what we need to know about a given situation when we need to know it, and typically only enough to make the next step forward. After all, to know too much about the definite future risks control freaks like me wanting to hurry up and speed to the conclusion while completely missing all the divine opportunities between point A and Z.There's a lot to get out of this book. It's pretty hard-hitting in issue-dealing, but that's reality. It all simply makes me look forward to Mr. Godawa's future books!

A well researched, and written book on the topic. I believe that I could use this book to cane a chair seat or replace the seat weaving on a chair. It is very detailed in defining the steps, and well illustrated. It is a good book for someone who has never done the tasks before.I have fond memories of a set of dining room chairs that an aunt and uncle owned that had woven seats. Much more comfortable than the solid wooden seats on my dining room chairs.

Don't weave baskets much anymore but keep this for a guide doing chairs and stools

The story of Boudicca is told to a child keeping alive the tradition of the Iceni. She really lived and faced the Roman Legionaires. She was brave and lived when women were nothing more than a man’s property. Her courage is not forgotten and her people honor her still.I loved the telling of Boudicca’s story; she was so alive and brave. What a great way to learn about the people in history. The audio book is short enough to be listened to in one sitting and is narrated by Richard Mann who does a remarkable job in the telling.

Beware! This is a very short tale, which is basic and uninspired. The writing is not engaging. As short as it is, I had to force myself to read the whole thing.

Great story that left me wanting more. Fortunately, this prolific author makes it easy to satisfy that desire.

I really enjoyed this book! I have always been a fan of historical fiction...This author did a great job!!

A great read, full of history, cool information, and a totally new perspective on someone you probably haven't heard about but should have!

A story told to Moira by her mother Keita generations after Queen Boudicca and the Iceni fought the Roman conquerors, trying to preserve their culture, their religion, and their sovereignty over the East Anglian region of what is now England. Boudicca had come to England an escaped Celt from Gaul when she meets the King of the Iceni, Prasutagus, who marries her and fathers two daughters with her before the Romans move to take over the Celtic kingdom completely. Boudicca’s Celtic culture would make many modern men and women proud to live within its tolerant confines. The story is clear on historical facts, a little heavy on political posture, and thin on character development, where the narrator tells us what to think of people and events, rather than showing them to us and trusting us to draw our own conclusions.

Oh this would have been such a great story if more flesh had been put on it! As a writer, i myself write for the readers with short attention spans, but this could have used much more detail.

The author, Laurel A. Rockefeller, gave me a copy of this book in exchange for my review.Boudicca, Britain's Queen of the Iceni is very much a story with an aim to educate as well as entertain. The framework of the tale is that it’s a story told to a child. The storyteller this time is her mother and the goal is to serve as an empowering tale. Things get tough but women, frequently marginalized in our recorded past, can too change the course of history.Rockefeller doesn’t sugarcoat the history in Boudicca, Britain's Queen of the Iceni for young readers. She is delicate and doesn’t go into graphic detail but abuse, rape and potential sexual slavery is mentioned. It is difficult for young women to comprehend the way that Boudicca and her twin daughters were perceived.Twelve-year-old Alex and I read this novel together and she found the dynamic fascinating. Boudicca’s tale once again confirmed her delight at being born in the 21st Century. From the time we meet Boudicca as she’s running from an abusive mistress, the level of courage she showed in Rockefeller’s well-composed narrative appealed to the young Alex and she enters a phase in her life where she’ll embrace a growing independence.I really enjoy Laurel Rockefeller’s work and believe that she’ll be responsible for introducing many young women to historical figures they will admire.
