Written by a fine biblical scholar who teaches biblical geography courses "on site" in Israel several times per year. If you want to know how geography helps interpret the Bible, this book will not disappoint!

A wonderful view of the Biblical lands and their archeological treasures. It was a much-appreciated gift to a young traveller.

I have all of the good Atlases (15-20), but this one is a little different. It is written with a common sense approach by a knowledgeable person. Very easy to use and as with most books, it has some different material. I highly recommend this atlas.

I think it's important for people to realize this is a book for all ages, for all stages of your career. I am considered a "Young Professional" who perhaps just found my career in technology. I'm about 7 months into my new job and read this book to consider what advice might be found within. This book gives insightful information and examples for mentorship, growth, playing nice in the workplace, and what a successful professional looks like. I highly recommend this book and like many others, I will be dishing it out to friends.

It’s hard for me to count the number of times over the last 20 years my friends (from either my business or undergraduate school) and I have discussed the need for a book just like this. The idea is so simple, and while many writers have tried, none have cut to the heart of what actually matters in navigating one’s early career the way Jim does here. It’s a pragmatic, sensible and honest book, with real world perspectives strangely enough rarely taught in even the top MBA programs. I hope readers can appreciate the insights Jim offers that, unfortunately, isn’t always understood absent real world experience.

This book does a very good job giving valuable action steps to growing your career. As a highly motivated young professional, this book gave sound advice to begin implementing in my life. The section on mentors was especially valuable. I highly recommend for any young professional, especially those considering a job change or beginning their career fresh out of school.

One of the more complete career guides I've seen and I have read a lot. Targeted for and best for someone at the earlier stages of their career, but useful for anyone even at more senior levels.

The Career Playbook is a must read for any young professionals looking to gain an edge. I can't tell you how helpful it is to hear a more modernized take on career progression, especially for those of us trying to navigate the startup world. TCP lays out practical strategies and exercises to maximize one's effectiveness in relationship building, career advancement, and (most importantly) being happy overall. I'm happy to have it in my toolbox going forward. Awesome job!

waiting for kids to read it ...i am not holding my breath

A basic career advice book with little substance.

This is really a great book. I particularly loved the specifics Jim gives in terms of how to write e-mails, how to address people, etc. -- very actionable tips in addition to general principles. Many are lucky enough to have mentors or parents helping them through these questions. But not everybody is so fortunate, so I think the book is especially vital in that light.

I thought this was an informative book, albeit a bit too short. All in all, I think 30 Covert Emotional Manipulation Tactics was informative and clearly written by a person who has lived with manipulators of all sorts. If you've ever thought you were crazy, or that you just can't figure out what's going on with a person in your life, this book can help.However, the author, AB Admin, referenced another book in her/his book, called: "Who's Pulling Your Strings" by Harriet B. Braiker Ph.D. The "Strings" book was very informative and basically a step by step of how manipulation works and how to deprogram yourself.I found both books helpful.

There are a lot of books in my cart on this topic, breakups, relationship health, etc., and I should probably read them all. But when you’re in the throes of pain in the immediate aftermath of a breakup with someone like this, you need quick help just to get through the day. Maybe even the hour. This was an easy read but full of revelations and insights that somehow, when you recognize what your ex has been doing to you, and you give it a name, and you realize it’s so valid that there are books about it, well it makes you feel better. Gets you through that hour or that day. I highlighted the book in 3 colors. Yellow for information that generally applied to my ex. Blue for information that was spot on, word for word. And pink for information that was spot on, word for word, AND scary. Practically the entire book is highlighted. Out of the 30 tactics described, he had 27 of them. For the first time in 4 years since I met him, I don’t feel addicted to him or dependent on him. I see him as a very disturbed man who almost brought me down with him, and I just want him gone from my life.

This is by far the easiest-to-assimilate book of its genre - and I've seen a lot of them. I've been extensively researching narcissism, gas lighting and various psychological disorders. I wanted to understand how a strong, formerly independent and powerful woman could inexplicably become weak, powerless, jealous, and insecure in a relationship that started out so promisingly. The many other wonderful books, websites and blogs I've found have helped me immeasurably, to learn that certain vulnerabilities (due to upbringing, personality type, etc) make some people great targets for manipulative people. If you've ever been completely frustrated by someone, but when you try to explain it to someone else - or when you confront that person, you can't convey a solid reason - guess what? You might not "be crazy" -- you might be susceptible to subtle manipulation that boggles your mind and makes you tear your hair out.The beauty of this book is in its simplicity. The layout and writing are excellent for someone just figuring out that they might be the victim of controlling personalities. It's 60 awesome pages, and you can easily spot the specific issues you are personally experiencing. These results then help you narrow down the specific issues that apply to you personally, so you can research them further. There are also a lot of references in it to help you further your study. This book is a big wake-up call - BUY IT.

The book started off ok. However, the book then talked about invalidation. The book's description would include anytime someone disagrees with you, doesn't react the way you want when you tell them about your achievements/circumstance, or has a different opinion. The book also describes this as the worst kind of psychological abuse. I'm sure that there is a way that something like this could be abusive, but the book's description of invalidation encompasses normal parts of a relationship between two people that don't think exactly the same way. Ironically, if someone took this to heart, then they would make their partner out to be abusive every time they disagree or see things differently, which is extremely manipulative and abusive. The next two chapters basically say that abusive relationships have ups and downs, which all relationships have. Just because everything isn't going great all the time doesn't mean you are in a manipulative relationship. This book has very little information that is accurate and useful. The author also doesn't seem to have a sufficient knowledge of the topics covered in this book, but maybe this is because I finished listening to a much better book on this subject "In sheep's clothing" right before listening to this.

I strongly recommend this easy to read, uncomplicated, well researched hand-book. This book will help you heal from any negative past relationships regardless of whether the relationship was romantic, friendship, employer, parent or a family member and can help keep you from entering into, enduring or continuing physical and emotional abuse. Prior to becoming a R.N., I was in a very confusing, controlling and abusive marriage, prior to that, I had the same type of maternal parent (only she was more diabolical, may she RIP). So, even a child/adolescent would benefit reading this book. When an employer's main focus was to get me to disclose issues in my personal life and then, she began to focus negatively on my personal choices, (non-work related), (due to my previous experiences), I was able to walk away before she could professionally cause harm. If I had read this book, I would have recognized the warning signs that I ignored during interview and would have refused the position.

Students of the New Testament know that of the three Synoptic Gospels, Mark was written first and Matthew and Luke used it as the framework for their gospels. However, Matthew and Luke have over 200 parallel verses that do not appear in Mark. Through careful study, scholars have long theorized there was an even earlier gospel then these four, called The Gospel of Q. Q comes from the German word for “source.”Q, believed to have been written between 50 and 70 AD, has been reconstructed by scholars and two translations: one literal, the other colloquial are presented in this book. Mr. Mattison explores the history of its origin and development and relates it to Jesus both as a document of his wisdom and a record of history.Mr. Mattison has much Biblical scholarship under his belt, having translated the gospels of Mary, Thomas and Judas. He was also part of a team that translated a Divine Feminine Version of the New Testament from the original Greek.

Both Gospels of Matthew and Luke borrow heavily from Mark. Those two books themselves overlap, leading scholars to speculate that there was another source for those two books called the Gospel of Q. Mattison gives a concise history of the Gospel of Q as well as an analysis of the differing views.

Mattison’s “Gospel of Q” is a wonderful introduction and resource on this often discussed-- but not often enough elaborated upon-- early gospel. I appreciate how he includes two translations—one informal and another formal—so the reader can get two ways of looking at the Q gospel in this one book. It is also nice that Matthison gifts his translations to the Public Domain for anyone to use.I also appreciated that his review of the history of the scholarly recognition of Q is brief and not bogged down in technical details. He presents the more recent arguments for and against Q and makes succinct and solid points for it. He also lucidly explains the criteria scholars use for historicity and applies them to Q as part of his placing Q in its historical context.Where this book really shines is how Mattison builds the case for the Gospel of Q having a dual foci of Wisdom tradition and the Prophetic tradition—and how Q used both to craft a distinct message that impacted the other gospels that would follow.I recommend “The Gospel of Q: Jesus' Prophetic Wisdom” to lay, clergy and scholars alike.

Mark Mattison has provided a thoughtful, lucid, and accessible introduction to Q as well as careful translations. His work is a real service to those who are interested in studying the writings of early Jesus followers more closely.
