First I must say this is an ADULT book and the prudish need not apply! Two vampire kings whose covens have, until fairly recently, been at war. Now each king must choose a human female in order to produce an heir for each coven (vampire females don't breed well). Each chooses a different lady, but neither wants to be mated to a vampire. As it turns out, both vampire kings must seek the hand of the same human lady (who's still not interested). Overcoming her resistance, while still hating each other isn't in the cards. Can the two alphas stop fighting & share? It doesn't take long before enough "action" takes place that there is another "complication". Will even this fact be enough to end the animosity between two head strong alpha males? The sex (there is plenty of that) is thoroughly enjoyed by all involved and the three-way action is well and tastefully done. There were some mechanical issues which to my mind did not detract from the story. As for the complaining done by the "female" I think her position was such that her complaints were fully warranted in order to get the males to stop fighting and act appropriately. It shows even the most bull-headed alpha males can "see the light" if the lady is strong and persistent enough! Don't give up ladies we can sometimes be trained.
*My usual disclaimer applies*I tried to give this book a chance, I really wanted to like it, but no. I know that first books in a series can be rough, or at least rougher than the books that come after it, but Chosen by the Vampire Kings is too rough for my liking. First of all, the main summary of the book does not mention a threesome of any kind, there is just a disclaimer before the summary about this book containing 'menage'. Second, this book is supposed to be about a BBW (Big Beautiful Woman), which usually means that she is supposed to be at the very least 200 lbs. yet in the book Tanya is just a little overweight, and is in a healthy range. That does not make her a BBW. Thirdly, there were some grammatical and spelling errors. These three inconsistencies and mistakes I can deal with, but the rest of the book I cannot. My main issue is that the content seems FORCED, especially the situations and dialogue. It doesn't help that there is no world building, and the characters are not fleshed out. For example, in the beginning, Tanya comes across as a reserved person, but strong, yet throughout the book she cycles between being that strong person and then suddenly acting like a weak damsel in distress. Is she supposed to be strong or not? Another example is her 'reluctance' in being a vampire bride. She was so against it and she thinks about 'escaping' and 'returning home' yet her words and actions prove otherwise. Any protestations she makes are extremely half-assed.Another example is when Staphany, a vampire character, continuously lets slip information about both kings and the vampire world, yet when Tanya asks her to elaborate, she says to 'ask Brant' or 'ask Zane' and refuses to say any more. She does this often, and it's annoying.Another issue I have is that the story does not flow. First, we never really get a clear picture on how Tanya came to be at the ceremony. There is supposed to be a test, she's supposed to meet certain criteria in order to attend, yet hints in the explanation say that she didn't meet the criteria, yet she was forced to attend anyway. Did I miss something somewhere? Second, the whole idea of the M/M/F (Male/Male/Female). The whole process didn't happen naturally. It is first explained that ONE WOMAN each would be chosen by the kings to become their queens and mate them in order to have heirs. Ok, that's easy to understand. These women are the kings' only hope in the continuation of their race, once the woman is chosen, there will be no other. Again easy to understand. We get a brief explanation on the mating habits of vampires, then all of a sudden it's explained that sometimes the females of the race will mate more than one male in order to keep them from fighting over her or something. HUH? Where did that come from? Obviously it was put there to give credence to Tanya becoming a mate to both kings, but I honestly think that that little tidbit did not need to be there. For me it interrupted the flow of the story. Tanya mating two men doesn't have to be the normal thing, it could have been presented as something unique but special.I could go on, and have even highlighted multiple examples in the text, but this review is long already. For the reasons stated above, I give this book two stars.
I've read The Program series without reading The Chosen Series and it can be done as it focuses entirely on a different aspect of the vampire story, namely the guys who work for both Zane and Brant. I'm not a fan of manage books and avoid them, but I wanted to read how such dominant males ended up sharing one human female. This book was long and I understood the need to explain how Tanya fell for both males and not being a fan of threesomes, I cringed at times with the sex scenes involving all three of them. That's just me though. If you don't mind readng these books, more power to you. I definitely enjoyed The Program Series more out of the two series. However, this book is well-written and kept the action going without a dull moment. If you liked this book, you'll like the sequel to this one called Mated to the Vampire Kings, although I should warn you, there are 2 other books after this one before you get to the sequel that shows the drama of a very pregnant Tanya and the circumstances of the birth. Other previous characters from those books make appearances as well, so if you don't want spoilers, read in sequence.
I was really disappointed. This story is pretty much the same as her water dragons story. Names and species changed but the rest was interchangeable. Both stories centered on an outspoken female. This author drove me crazy using 'tramped down' instead of tamped down many times. And then there was a breakfast of toast and pancakes with syrup and grated cheese - yuck. It also is a bit on the young adult side. Needless to say I should have passed on this.
