Are our expectations too high, or should people live up to the standard that others set for them? Arthur Miller does not give us an answer (of course) but there are moments in this drama that get us pretty close.Like a lot of Miller “All My Sons” deals with a father and son relationship that can never meet the burden of expectation BOTH father and son have put on it. In this manner it resembles “Death of a Salesman” quite a bit. The play is written in three acts. A simple structure: first act sets up the characters and relationships, second act lets us in on the dramatic issue of the play, third act shows us how the characters we have come to know deal with the issue revealed in Act 2.I don’t want to give away any plot points. I was lucky enough to pick up this play knowing very little about it. I won’t ruin that for others here. However, I will say that for an actor and reader the Keller family (the main protagonists of the play) come across as characters with dimension and depth. Mr. Miller has written some great roles here, with a lot of unspoken issues for actors to play with. This text is a quick read, but one that will creep up on you. Like the best of Miller, it deals with a situation that almost any human can relate to, disappointment in someone we love. It will last because that is a part of the human condition and Miller has captured it with all its love, pain, and consequences.I will be seeing a professional production of this piece next week and I imagine it will only enhance my appreciation for this text.

This review is for the audiobook with Julie Harris and James Farentino. This is an excellent, but intense and painful play written by Arthur Miller. The story has to do with misconduct within a business with tragic consequences. The performance is excellent. I hate to think about what it would be like to have anything to do with any part of a situation like this. I loved the play and the performance, but it is not fun. Thank You...

I bought and read this book because my grandson had to read it in school as part of a unit of 3 books supposed to examine "The American Dream" This was the only book that came close to the topic in my opinion. The real subject of the book is integrity and it does a good job of examining that. The father, with a business in manufacturing, allowed faulty parts to be supplied to the armed services and passed the blame to his business partner. Questions arise later in their children's lives and they must decide which they value more, wealth or truth. It's a good read.

The play is about the effect that war has on a family. Any family who has lived through a war can relate. But it is also a reminder of the extra toll it takes when people sacrifice their ethics for money and reputation.Arthur Miller is an amazing playwrite. I love the way the plot unfolds with little hints until the final reveal. It's hard enough to do that in a 400 page novel. But I'd still rather read a novel. Why? Because I love the detail. In a play, you have to either see it to get the details, or imagine them. But if you have to read a play, pick Arthur Miller. He's a genius.

Seems like a cheap reproduction. Font is hard to read and hurts eyes. It was so bad, I had to go to The Drama Book Shop to see if there was a better copy. Sure enough, there was. I’m returning this book.

If you haven't read this play, it's a must for Arthur Miller fans. The first half will have you laughing from beginning, almost to the end. the last half will have you in tears. If not, then the performers didn't do their jobs!! I saw this in Ringgold, GA and I don't believe I could have found a professional performance that was any better. Kudos, to the cast and director in Ringgold!!

This "realist" play is just awesome. The main characters are so deep and their relationships so compelling that it is almost impossible not to relate with some of them. It's a very good portrait of a family with big personal guilts and social complicity that emerges from love and fear.The detailed introduction by Christopher Bisgsby deserves a special mention because of its psicological analysis of the main characters and elements of the play.

I read this play and it became my favorite. I can say it changed my life. I learned a lot about myself and my own limits. I recommend that everyone read this play.

Loved going back to Spring water to see what became of some of the characters. Good story line but predictable.

This is the story of Jack/Wesley and Olivia, a lonely spinster who isolated herself from the community until one day her first boarder arrives, you will have to read the rest of the story.Like all of this authors stories this one kept me spellbound, despite the fact that this is the second time I've read it.

I enjoyed the characters and the plot.I especially enjoyed the holiday traditions and the relationships between the characters. It was ahappy holiday story.

I would recommend reading this book, after reading the series. Like the entwining relationships of the characters in the series how things use to be with people, not like now days. Also was very well write, interesting threw out the book.

OMG!!! I absolutely loved this series. Took my time reading the last book as I didn't want it to end and got to love all the people in Springwater.

Story line is a bit predictable but still provided some twists. Good stories to escape with.

I have read most of Linda Lael Miller's books and this is among the best. I had a hard time putting it down. Thank you Ms Miller.

When, in the summer of 2002, Collins's smart, athletic, well-adjusted daughter stopped eating, she did what every parent is advised to do: get specialized help. So began her journey through a health care system that is rife with theories and that almost always "treats" the illness through hospitalization or treatment centers that isolate the child from the family--a family that is presumed harmful and made suspect by a range of unsavory stereotypes, from sexual abuse to excessive control to neglect. With their daughter's health steadily declining, the Collins family came to reject theories that claimed their daughter had chosen her disease and was responsible for giving it up, as well as those that said it was caused by bad parenting--theories that are now largely being discredited. I found myself nodding in recognition on almost every page of this book. The advice, the real life examples, and the message of hope - that we parents are our children's best chance at success - are indispensable. We are still in the thick of our battle with ED. But the "Stockdale Paradox" is in full effect: I have faith that we will prevail, regardless of the difficulties. AND at the same time we must confront the most brutal facts of our current reality, whatever they might be. Thank you for this gift, Laura!

My daughter recently fell into the dark pit of an ED. The maudsley approach (luckily) was one of the first sites I hit when searching the subject. This book read like my own personal story and it felt good to know I was not the only one dealing with the same types of things other families go thru during this time. If you are looking for direction, comfort, hope... read this book and read it as soon as you know you are dealing with an eating disorder situation.

But i am not able to read more than half-way through, since at some point in the Kindle book, as when I scroll on to subsequent pages, the text columns narrow until they are a single-character wide, see the photo. So I only managed to read the first third or half of the book.

It is a nice start for building a ROS system both in hardware and software, in every aspects of a robotic system.
